Eligibility for Application
Who's Qualified to Apply?
Canberra offers invitations to those who've presented requests for both Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491).
Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
The Subclass 190 visa grants permanent Australian residence. To be eligible, a State or Territory must endorse you. Based on this endorsement, the Department of Home Affairs extends the visa invite.
Commitment of Two Years:
If endorsed by the ACT for a 190 visa, you're obliged to live and be employed in Canberra for no less than two years post visa acquisition. If relocating from outside Canberra, this obligation starts from your entry date to Canberra.
Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491)
The Subclass 491 visa allows skilled individuals to live and work in regional Australia for a period of five years. A state or territory body must endorse you, and based on this, the Home Department sends a visa invitation.
Commitment of Two Years:
For those with an ACT-backed 491 visa, they're required to settle and work in Canberra for at least two years post visa issuance. This is also the case for those moving from overseas.
