Five Draws in Seven Days
IRCC has carried out five invitation rounds in one week, resulting in a total of 5,800 candidates invited through the Canada Express Entry System in the initial week of July. The CRS scores varied between 463 and 511, with the score of 511 marking the highest in any comprehensive draw of 2023.
A significant landmark was achieved in June's last week when IRCC carried out its inaugural category-specific Express Entry draw on June 27, 2023. Among the five invitation rounds held between July 4 and July 11, three featured Invitations to Apply (ITAs) to candidates under the recently introduced category-specific selection for Express Entry.
Introduction of Category-Based Express Entry Draws
On May 31, Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser proclaimed that IRCC has established six new selection categories for Express Entry draws after considering labor market predictions and consulting with various partners, stakeholders, provincial, and territorial governments.
Going forward, Express Entry draws will primarily target candidates demonstrating strong proficiency in French or with work experience in:
- French-language proficiency
- Healthcare roles
- Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) roles
- Trade roles
- Transport roles
- Agriculture and Agri-Food roles
Considering the newly introduced category-based selection draws and IRCC's strategy of organizing successive draws with high numbers of ITAs and low CRS scores, the present period is indeed an opportune time to consider immigration to Canada.
